Risk of landslides due to heavy rains in Chattogram, 19 evacuation shelters opened

This is to ensure that, in case of a disaster, people can safely move away from the at-risk hills

The Chittagong district administration has opened 19 shelters in the hilly areas of the Chattogram metropolis to protect people's lives and property amid heavy rains.

These shelters have been set up in the Chandgaon, Baklia, Agrabad, and Kattli Circle areas. This is to ensure that, in the event of a disaster, people can safely move away from the at-risk hills and maintain the social distancing required due to the novel coronavirus read a press release issued by the Chattogram district administration on Monday.

Loudspeaker announcements are also being made in the disaster-prone areas to help evacuate people from the at-risk hills to the safer shelters the release added.

These areas include the: Motijharna, Batali Hill, AK Khan Hill, Tankir Hill, Amin Jute Mills area, Raufabad, Khulshi, Pahartali, Fayez Lake, Jhil 1, 2 and 3 no areas of Akbar Shah, Jianagar, Madhyamnagar, Mujib Nagar, Shantinagar area, Kaibalyadham Bishwakaloni area, Firoz Shah area, Forest Research Institute area and Bayezid-Faujdarhat CDA link road areas of the city.
