Workers of Padma Wires Ltd in Chattogram staged a protest on Thursday against the closure of a factory without paying its 1,400 workers.
The workers also filed a case in labor court demanding full payment of wages and other dues.
Padma Wires closed its factory in the Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) without paying the dues of 1,400 workers, including four-months' salary, bonus, overtime, etc, said Liaqat Ali, a worker at the factory.
"That is why we have organised a protest march. We have filed a case against the company in labor court for payment of our due wages," he added.
The protest rally was in Sector 4 of CEPZ.
Regarding the protest, CEPZ Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC), Utpal Barua, said the workers staged a protest on Thursday morning demanding payment of their salaries. They later went to labor court to file a lawsuit.
Syed Nazrul Islam, managing director of Padma Wires, did not respond to a call from The Business Standard seeking comment on the issue.
