6 killed in road accident on Dhaka-Sylhet highway

Five passengers and the driver of an auto-rickshaw have been killed in a road crash in Osmaninagar upazila of Sylhet. 

Thursday night's accident killed: Khadija, 2, Karima, 4, Arifa, 12, Hamida, 28, and the auto-rickshaw driver Juned, 28. 

The identity of another deceased passenger has not yet been determined.

Khadiza and Karima were daughters of Kamruzzaman, living in Paschim Brahmmangaon village of the upazila, while Arifa was the daughter of Fazlu Mia of the same village. 

Hamida was the wife of Awal Mia, a resident of Vadro village in Moulvibazar Sadar upazila, and Juned was the son of Alauddin, living in Mobarakpur village of Osmaninagar.

The accident occurred at Bhanga in Sadipur area of Osmaninagar on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway when a Sylhet-bound bus of Mamun Paribahan hit the Sherpur-bound auto-rickshaw at around 8pm, according to Shyamal Banik, officer-in-charge (OC) of Osmaninagar Police Station, and locals.

Two passengers died at the scene and two others died on the way to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital. Two more people died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
