350 illegal structures demolished in Chattogram

The Chattogram District Administration and the Department of the Environment have evicted people living on the slopes of hills, and have demolished 350 illegal structures in Chatogram's metropolis, Sitakunda and Hathazari upazilas. The operation was conducted from morning to afternoon on Wednesday.

The information was given in a press release signed by Mohammad Nurullah Noori, director of the Chattogram metropolitan office of the environment department.

A joint eviction drive was carried out by the district administration and the environment department against the occupants of the risky and illegal settlements built on the slopes of Mouza hill in Salimpur, a jungle in Jalalabad Sitakunda under Hathazari upazila of Chattogram metropolitan north and Chattogram district.

The separate eviction drives were led by five executive magistrates of Chattogram district administration Milton Roy, Abdus Samad Sikder, Sharif Ullah, Abdus Samad Sikder and Mamnoon Ahmed Anik. Director of the Environment Department Moazzam Hossain, Deputy Director Jamir Uddin and Mia Mahmudul Haque assisted in the operation.

Police, fire service, electricity and other services departments provided overall assistance during the operation. It was mentioned in the press release that as a result of this operation, the risk of loss of life and property in the current monsoon season in the area will be reduced.
