Dinajpur's Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam and her father were attacked by some miscreants inside their house last night.

They were admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition initially.

The UNO was airlifted in a critical condition to Dhaka by a Bangladesh Air Force helicopter in this afternoon.

She was kept in the Intensive care unit (ICU) of Rangpur Doctors Clinic and later, transferred from Rangpur to Dhaka on an emergency basis when the situation deteriorated.

The miscreants broke into the government residence of the UNO around 2.30am last night through the ventilator and attacked the UNO and her father. Both of them sustained injuries on head and body. They are assumed to have been hit with a hammer or a heavy metal object.

On information, police rushed to UNO residence today morning, and found the UNO and her father injured badly. Later police sent them to the hospital. The guard was found locked in a room at the time.

Dinajpur Deputy Commissioner Mahmudul Alam, Superintendent of Police Anwar Hossain and other senior officials of the administration visited the spot soon after learning about the incident.

Ghoraghat Police Station Officer Amirul Islam said, "A case is to be filed in this regard and the incident is being investigated."

Ghoraghat Municipality Mayor Abdus Sattar Milon said, "Administration officials are still investigating the matter. Still nothing can be said surely. The incident is very tragic. Robbery can be a purpose of attack."
