At least seven tankers of an oil-laden train have derailed at Fenchuganj of Sylhet on Thursday night, snapping the rail communication of the district with other parts of the country.

The bogies of the Sylhet-bound train veered off the track at Maizgaon of Fenchuganj around 12:30am. At one stage, oil spilled on the ground from the tankers, creating fear of fire.

The bogies were not retrieved as of filing this report around 10am.

Khalilur Rahman, manager of Sylhet Railway Station, said rescue operation could not be commenced immediately after the accident due to dense fog.

"We have started the rescue drive in the morning," he said.

Derailment has been a common phenomenon of Sylhet-Dhaka railway line. Mos of the accidents take place between Sylhet and Akhaura. There have been at least 3 train accidents on this route in the last 3 months.
