Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal number three due to the well-marked low that later turned into depression over the Northwest Bay and adjoining West central Bay.

Under the influence of depression, the low-lying areas of the coastal districts of Satkhira, Khulna, Bagherhat, Jhalokathi, Pirojpur, Borguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barishal, Laxmipur, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni, Chattogram and their offshore islands and chars are likely to be inundated by the wind driven surge height of 3-5 feet above normal astronomical tide, a met office press release said here today.

Due to the presence of the depression, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at many places of Chattogram, Barishal, Khulna, Dhaka, Sylhet, Mymensingh, Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions, the release added.

All fishing boats and trawlers over north bay and deep sea have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.

In another met office bulletin said that in association with rain or thundershowers temporary south or south-easterly, squalls wind speed 60-80 kph is likely to occur over the regions of Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Faridpur, Madaripur, Dhaka, Jashore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noahkhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar and Sylhet.

In this perspective, river ports are asked to hoist riverine warning signal number two till 6 pm of today.
