Dense fog forced the suspension of ferry services on the key Paturia-Daulatdia and Shimulia-Banglabazar routes on Monday morning

In Manikganj, authorities suspended the service on the Paturia-Daulatdia route to avoid accidents as the ferry's marking lights became dim as the fog thickened.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Aricha office trade department manager Salam Hossain said the ferry service was suspended from 12 midnight on Sunday.

He said fog started accumulating in the river area from Sunday evening. Later, at around 12 o'clock in the night, the light of the marking lamp of the ferry became dim.

So, to avoid accidents on the waterway, the ferry service on the Paturia-Daulatdia waterway was suspended.

Meanwhile, the number of waiting vehicles has increased in both the ferry terminals of the route due to the closure of ferry services.

"When the fog disappears, the ferry service will resume. After that, according to the serial, the waiting vehicles will cross the navigable route," said Salam Hossain.

In Munshiganj, the ferry services on Shimulia-Banglabazar route remained suspended since 2am due to poor visibility caused by dense fog.

The authorities of BIWTC suspended ferry services to avoid accidents, said it's Assistant Director Safiqul Islam.
