Dengue menace: New insecticide arrives from India

A new type of insecticide to eradicate Aedes mosquitoes arrived here on Monday from India’s Chennai.

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) source said the effectiveness of the medicine will be tested on mosquitoes at 3pm Tuesday.

Earlier on Friday, another new type of insecticide, called Aqua K-Othrine, was tested at the DSCC building. The insecticide, which contains 2% Deltamethrin, was bought from international pharmaceuticals company - Bayer Corporation.

The medicine was sprayed in three separate boxes with 50 mosquitoes in each box. After half an hour, it was found that 14 mosquitoes died in the first box, 13 in the second box and nine in the last one.
