Death toll rises to 7 in Banshkhali power plant clash

Two workers have succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained in police firing during a clash at a power plant in Chattogram's Banshkhali, taking the death toll to seven in the incident.

One of them, identified as Shimul Ahmed, 19, died at Chittagong Medical College Hospital at around 3.30 pm on Wednesday.

Banshkhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shafiul Kabir confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

"A worker named Shimul Ahmed died while undergoing treatment in the afternoon," he said.

Another worker named Rajeul Islam, 25, died early Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Parkview Hospital in Chattogram. He hailed from Nathan Jamdani village under Betdighi union in Fulbari Upazila of Dinajpur.

Fulbari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Riaz Uddin confirmed the matter to TBS.

Earlier, five people were killed and many injured as workers clashed with police at an under-construction power plant, owned by S Alam Group and China-based SEPCO3.

The other deceased are Shuvo, 23, Rahat, 24, Ahmad Reza, 19, Raihan, 17, and Rony Hossain, 22.
