Cumilla sees a rise in dengue patients
Nearly 400 people took dengue tests so far.
Sixteen new dengue patients were admitted to Comilla Medical College Hospital (CMCH) in the last 24 hours until Sunday morning.
CMCH is currently treating 17 people suffering from the viral disease. Since the beginning of the year, 96 dengue patients were hospitalized in the district. Only three of them have returned home after taking treatment, according to government data.
CMCH Director Dr Swapan Kumar Adhikari said nobody died of dengue in the district until now. Nearly 400 people took tests at the hospital so far. “Twelve of them were found to be infected,” he said.
The hospital is yet to set up a separate ward for dengue patients even though most of the patients are staying on the floor.
This year, the mosquito-borne disease infected 22,919 people since January. The government said 6,858 of them are undergoing treatment at hospitals.
So far, 18 people have died of dengue, according to official data.
