A student of Chittagong University (CU) has been expelled for harassing a female student on March 1.

Expelled Probir Ghosh was a student at the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of the university.

Probir has been expelled as per special discretionary power of the Board of Residence, Health and Discipline committee on March 1 after strong protests from the university students.

CU Proctor Professor SM Monirul Hasan confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

The victim, a student of International Relations Department, was physically assaulted by Probir at Kata Pahar Road of the university at night.

Later the victim's classmates caught him and handed him over to the proctorial body.

The proctorial body then handed Probir over to the mobile court.

A mobile court headed by Hathazari Upazila Executive Officer Ruhul Amin sentenced Probir to one month in jail.
