Chattogram local Awami League leader Saber Ahmed died on Friday night in a Dhaka hospital who was injured in an attack by miscreants at Banshkhali in Chattogram.
Banshkhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiul Kabir confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
The 47-year-old leader had been rushed to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) in the capital in critical condition.
Earlier on Thursday night, miscreants attacked and severed both legs of Awami League leader Saber with a sharp weapon.
Saber Ahmed was the Vice-president of Awami League, ward 7 of Pukuria union in Banshkhali upazila.
Local UP member Farid Ahmed said, "There was a dispute between the deceased Saber and his cousin Delwar over family land. On Thursday night, a group of miscreants led by Delwar attacked Saber."
Saber Ahmed was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital and later to NITOR in Dhaka.
Banshkhali Police Station OC Shafiul Kabir said, "Saber Ahmed's wife Amena Khatun filed a murder case on Friday night."
Police immediately arrested a youth named Hasan, 19, in a drive.
"More operations are underway to arrest the rest of the accused," Shafiul added.
