The man in his 20s who attempted to rob the Naval Avenue branch of Trust Bank in Chattogram EPZ area has been placed on remand for two days.

The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Sarwar Jahan granted remand when police produced the youth -- Tarikul Islam, 21, of Cox's Bazar - before it, with a 5-day remand plea.

Md Shahabuddin, additional commissioner (prosecution) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, confirmed the information to The Business Standard.

Tarikul tried to rob the bank on Wednesday afternoon, but law enforcers foiled the attempt.

He entered the bank and took a chance to create a hostage situation by threatening bank officials to explode a bomb.

Later, the Rapid Action Battalion and police arrested him in a joint drive around 6:00pm. A bomb-like thing was seized from his possession.

Tarikul returned from Qatar around one year ago and has been unemployed since then.
