Three murders occurred within a span of three hours in Sitakunda, Chattogram, on Sunday evening between 7pm and 10pm.

The unsettling incidents took place in Bariadyala, Sonaichhari, and Salimpur unions, sending shockwaves through the community and instilling fear in the midst of the ongoing election season.

In Salimpur union, a 15-year-old Mohammad Imon fell victim to a brutal stick attack by members of a teenage gang over a badminton game. Imon succumbed to his injuries at Chattogram Medical College Hospital at 10pm.

Faujdarhat Police Outpost In-Charge Md Masud Rana confirmed the incident and said that three individuals have been arrested in connection with the attack.

Imon's elder brother, Jibon, expressed profound grief and shock, saying that Imon had no disputes with anyone and was targeted by members of a ruling party's teenage gang. He urged a fair investigation and trial to ensure justice for his brother and prevent further such tragic happenings.

In Bariadyala union, Nurul Mustafa Bajlu, a 50-year-old BNP leader and community figure, reportedly met a tragic end at the hands of Jubo League leader Touhid. The incident occurred at around 7pm, with Nurul Mustafa being shot and hacked.

The victim's younger brother, Mohammad Ismail Hossain, accused Touhid, a known criminal and drug dealer, of orchestrating the murder with the backing of local Awami League leaders. Ismail called for a thorough investigation and trial to bring the perpetrators to justice.

In Sonaichhari union, Mohammad Alamgir, a 35-year-old man who had recently returned from living abroad, was reportedly stabbed by unidentified miscreants at 10pm.

Alamgir, who ran a tea shop in Chowdhuryghata area, had no apparent conflicts, leaving locals and his family baffled at what might have been the motive behind the attack. His elder brother, Mohammad Jahangir, an Awami League leader, demanded a fair investigation to uncover the truth behind Alamgir's untimely demise.

The atmosphere in Sitakunda has become tense, with residents expressing concern over the deteriorating law and order situation.

Awami League leaders have attributed the murders to the opposition BNP, alleging an attempt to create chaos before the election. For their part, BNP leaders claim government-backed terrorists seek to establish fear and influence in the area.

Abu Tayeb Mohammad Arif Hossain, additional superintendent of police (SP) of the Special Branch of Chattogram District Police, acknowledged the worsening law and order situation but assured that the police have identified the culprits in two of the incidents.

The investigation is ongoing in the third incident. Several people have already been arrested. The rest will soon be brought to justice, he added.
