Three youths detained with 56 gold bars in Teknaf

BGB members stopped the CNG which was going to Ukhiya from Teknaf

Palangkhali Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members detained three youths with 56 gold bars while conducting a raid at the Katakhali Bridge area of the Ukhia-Teknaf border in Cox's Bazar.

The detainees were identified as Monir Alam (26), Nur Ahmed (37) and Mamunur Rashid (28).

Cox's Bazar BGB-34 Captain Lieutenant Colonel Ali Haider Azad Ahmed said, "They were detained while illegally bringing huge consignment of gold from Myanmar to Bangladesh and going to the Rohingya camp by CNG."

"BGB members stopped the CNG which was going to Ukhiya from Teknaf," he said.

BGB suspected their behavior and searched them twice. Later, 56 gold bars were found hidden with them. Estimated value of the recovered gold is Tk5,30,67,000.

The detainees were handed over to Teknaf police station and the gold recovered from will be deposited at the Cox's Bazar treasury office, said Lieutenant Colonel Ali Haider Azad Ahmed.
