The prime accused of Wari child rape and murder case was arrested by police’s Detective Branch (DB) from Cumilla’s Dabardanga area on Sunday morning.

The arrestee, Harun Ur Rashid, 27, allegedly raped and killed seven-year-old Samia Afrin Sayma, a student of Silverdale School. He had been on the run since the incident.

“He confessed the crime in primary interrogation by police,” said Abdul Baten, joint commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, at a media briefing on Sunday.

Sayma was found dead on Friday evening in an under-construction flat on the eighth floor of the same building where her family resides in Wari of Dhaka.

Forensic examinations confirmed on Saturday that Sayma had been raped before she was killed.
