Police looking for mystery woman over Dhanmondi double-murder

After examining CCTV footage and interrogating six people who were detained over the double–murder in Dhanmondi, police have identified the absconding housemaid, who is at the centre of the murder mystery. Arresting her will shed light on the murder case, said related sources.

Abdullahil Kafi, additional deputy commissioner (Dhanmondi zone) of police said, "We are trying to arrest the absconding new housemaid. Police are looking for her in different parts of the country."

Police said, on Thursday the woman went to meet the victim's family for a job. On Friday, the woman, clad in jeans and kamiz, went to work at the house and the murders were committed after that.

Police suspect that the absconding new housemaid knows everything about the homicide and was directly involved in the murders. Police have identified her last location using technology.

Meanwhile, on Saturday police handed over the bodies to their families after an autopsy. 

Dr Kabir Sohel, who did the autopsy, said the throats of both the victims were slit. There were also many marks of injury inflicted by sharp instruments on their bodies.

The bodies of Afroza Begum, 65, and Diti, 19, a housemaid, were recovered from a flat in Dhanmondi on Friday evening.

Police detained six people, including the electrician and the security guards of the building, for interrogation.

Police sources said that three of the detained people will face further legal action and the rest will be released after interrogation.

The three suspects who will be kept in police custody are Kazi Monir Uddin, the victim Afroza Begum's son in law, his bodyguard Bachchu Mia, and Belayet, the electrician of the building.

The victim's families have not yet filed a case at Dhanmondi Police station over the murders.

Police said the case will be filed as soon as any of the victim's family members come to the police station.
