Passenger detained at Chattogram airport with 1kg gold

Customs officials detained a man with 1.245kg gold estimated to be worth over Tk1 crore at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram on Thursday.

The detainee Masud Rana, hailing from Jamalpur, arrived from Dubai on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight (BG-148) at 8am on Thursday (16 June).

"Acting on a tip-off, a team of Customs Intelligence challenged Masud and seized 9kg lead, Iphones along with gold," said AKM Sultan Mahmud, deputy director of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate.

He said, "The seized gold is estimated to be worth Tk1.30 crore." 

A case may be filed against the passenger under Customs law and the process of depositing the gold and shisha in the customs treasury is underway, added the CIID official.
