No case filed yet over Kalabagan physician ‘murder’

No case has been registered yet over the suspected murder of physician Sabira Rahman, although 24 hours have passed since the recovery of her body. 

Police say no relatives and family members of Sabira so far agreed to be the plaintiff in the case, citing various reasons.

In this case, after a certain time, the police will file a case as a plaintiff.

Sharif Mohammad Faroquzzaman, senior assistant commissioner of New Market zone of ​​the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), told The Business Standard that Sabira's husband Shamsuddin Azad was asked to be the plaintiff in the case.  But he refused to be the plaintiff showing excuse for his physical problems, including diabetes.

One of Sabira's uncles was also asked to be the plaintiff; he also refused to be the plaintiff in the case, citing that he lives outside Dhaka and has a business there, said Sharif Mohammad Faroquzzaman.

The police official said as Sabira's only son Tazwar is an adult, police asked him to be the plaintiff in the case. But Sabira's mother opposed, saying the boy would soon move to Canada for higher study. So, he cannot be a plaintiff. 

At the end, if none is the plaintiff, then after a certain period of time, a sub-inspector of the police station will be the plaintiff in the case.

Meanwhile, the police detained the gatekeeper of the building, a young woman who was a sublet in the flat, her friend and a housemaid for questioning in connection with the incident.

Kalabagan Police Station and the Detective Branch (DB) of the police are investigating the incident.

The body of physician Sabira Rahman, 47, was recovered from her flat in Kalabagan, Dhaka on Monday. The body of Sabira bore four wounds from a sharp weapon and burn injuries on her back.

The body of the doctor was recovered after extinguishing the fire in the flat. She used to work as a sonology consultant at Green Life Hospital in the capital.
