A 72-year-old man has been killed by his nephew over a land-related dispute at Shulpur village of Sirajdikhan in Munshiganj.

The incident took place on Friday midnight, hours after an arbitration meeting. The deceased was identified as Michael Rozario and the accused as Ganet Rozario, 50.

"Genet has been arrested immediately with a one-barreled gun, "said Md Kamruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Sirajdikhan Police Station.

Nayan Rozario, a member of the local union parishad, said Michael had long been at loggerheads with his nephew Ganet over the ownership of a piece of land at the village.

They, both residents of America, returned home recently for settling the long-standing disputes, he said, adding that an arbitration meeting was held there on Friday evening in this regard.

"I along with other respected personalities of the area solved their disputes on Friday evening. But around 12:30am, Ganet's younger brother informed me over phone that his brother had shot their uncle," Nayan added.

Later, Michael succumbed to his injuries while being taken to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital in Dhaka.
