A vegetable trader got injured in Chuadanga district as the local swooped down on him, suspecting him to be a child-lifter on Wednesday. The victim was identified as Alek Hossain, said the police.

Alek was visiting his in-laws in Alamdanga upazila in Chuadanga district. On Wednesday afternoon, he took a walk around and talked to a madrasa student in the area.

“As he was a new face in the area and had been talking to a kid, locals mistook him as an abductor,” said local police outpost ASI Mohiuddin. Moreover, earlier that day, a beheaded body of a madrasa student was recovered in the upazila which, as cops said, might have “triggered the mob sentiment”.

After verifying his identity as a vegetable trader, police handed him over to his relatives.
