The body of a six-year old girl was recovered from an abandoned pond at Machhua village in Betagi upazila of Barguna on Thursday night.

Deceased Tamima was daughter of Md Shohidul Islam of the village and a student of Baby Class in Mokamia Masua Government Primary School.

A six-inch wooden stick was found inside the vagina of the victim's body. Besides, there was an injury mark in the throat of the body, said Sub-inspector of Betagi Police Station Goutam.

The lower portion of the body was naked, said Goutam.

The books and copies of Tamima were lying scattered beside the wetland, he added.

Tamima did not return home after attending her school on Thursday. 

Around 5:00 pm, the family members of the girl found the body in the pond and then informed the police.

Later, police recovered the body.

Barguna Police Super Md Maruf Hossain and additional Police Super Md Tofayel Ahmed also visited the spot.

Officer-in-charge of the police station Ferdous Alam Khan said the police was interrogating a man named Sabbir in this connection.
