Alleged killer Rabiul shot the UP member to frame the local chairman – seeking revenge

The murder of Hamidul Haque, a member of Gopinathpur Upazila in Gopalganj, was pre-meditated to frame the local UP Chairman Lachhu Sharif, said CID.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested the prime accused, Rabiul Islam Sharif, and his associates, Amir Molla and Sagor, on Monday.

Imam Hossain, additional deputy inspector general, revealed the matter during a press briefing at CID headquarters on Tuesday.

Imam Hossain said, alleged killer Rabiul was framed in an abduction case a few years ago, according to Rabiul. He had been seeking revenge since.

Recently, the victim, Hamidul Haque, distrusted Chairman Lachhu Sharif about a matter. Hearing of the incident, Rabiul planned to kill the UP member to frame the chairman, Imam Hossain informed the press briefing quoting Rabiul.

CID recovered a motorbike which was used in the crime. However, the police have not recovered the firearm yet.

Rabiul went to Gopalganj from Jashore, borrowing Amir Molla's motorbike, as CID found CCTV footage from Rupsha Bridge and Monir's Petrol Pump in Jasore while they were coming to Gopalganj from Jashore, clarified the press briefing.

CID further said Rabiul hired the firearm from a criminal. Police identified him and kept him under close surveillance to identify the killer.

On 12 December, Hamidul was returning home on a rickshaw when miscreants riding a motorcycle shot him and fled the scene.
