Man held 34 years after stealing bicycle, money
Since the issuance of the arrest warrant, a total of 120 police officials have been assigned to arrest Nurul in the last 34 years.
Police have arrested a man from Magura district town on Monday, for the theft he had committed long 34 years ago.
He is identified as Nurul Islam, 58, hailing from Lohagara upazila of Narail district, reports Prothom Alo.
While serving a private company in Gazipur's Tongi area as an office assistant, he had stolen a bicycle along with TK10,000 from his office and fled away in 1986.
The company then filed a case against him with Tongi Police Station what prompted the accused to go into hiding.
Later in 1994, a court sentenced him to two-year imprisonment in the case in his absence.
Finally, police managed to arrest Nurul on Monday, after decades of hectic efforts.
Riazul Islam, additional superintendent of Narail police, disclosed the information at a press briefing on Monday evening.
Md Mahfuzul Haque, a sub-inspector of Lohagara Police Station who arrested the convict, said a court handed down the jail sentence for Nurul on 29 September, 1994.
