After the verdict was pronounced, a photo of Rigan and another convict wearing IS caps went viral

The incident of Holey Artisan attack convicts including Rakibul Hasan Rigan wearing the cap of Islamic State during the verdict happened due to negligence of the police, said former inspector general of police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque.

After the verdict was pronounced, a photo of Rigan and another convict wearing IS caps went viral. Rigan along with six other accused of the terror attack was sentenced to death in the much-talked attack that took place in 2016.

When contacted, the former IGP told The Business Standard, "Rigan has been in jail for last three years. He was not supposed to possess the IS cap for this long time."

"Police, jail police and special branch police always remained near the family members and relatives when they went to meet Rigan in jail.

Today Rigan was taken to the court by the police. He might have got the cap due to the negligence of police," Shahidul Haque added.

He also said such cases of police failure can lead to bigger incidents.
