Huge amount of expired food products seized in Bogura

A mobile court on Thursday seized a huge amount of date-expired and illegally produced food products after raiding a factory in the Muroil area in Kahalu upazila under Bogura district.

The mobile court with members from police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and Bangladesh Standards & Testing Institution (BSTI) also arrested four workers of the factory named Mursalin Food Products in this connection.

Kahalu Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Masudur Rahman, who led the mobile court, fined the workers -- Kawser Hasen, Abu Ohab, Khairul Islam and Rita Akter Tk1 lakh each, or suffer three months of imprisonment in default.

The UNO said the legal taskforce burned food products worth around Tk9 lakh that were substandard and did not have approval of the BSTI.

The factory was producing ice lollies, juice, laccha semai, and Chanachur for the last one year.

The mobile court raided the factory on the basis of information provided by detective organisation NSI.

The mobile court also raided another semai making factory in the upazila and fined the factory owner Ariful Islam Tk50,000.
