A Dhaka court has placed Sayed Jahirul Islam, former chief executive officer (CEO) of HDF Apparels, on a one-day remand in a fraud case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Morshed Al Mamun Bhuiyan granted the remand today after a hearing.

Earlier, the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit of the police, the investigating agency of the case, sought a seven-day remand for a proper investigation into the fraud case filed at Uttara Police Station.

According to court sources, Jahirul Islam allegedly embezzled around Tk2.66 crore through fraud at different times while he was the chief executive of the HDF Apparels.

The general manager of the company, Anwar Hossain, filed the case with the Uttara police station on July 20. Police arrested Jahirul the next day.

According to the case, Jahirul was allegedly cheating using the identity of the chairman of a garments company called "Jayana Atarias Limited."
