Govt recovers land grabbed by Selim Prodhan

The Roads and Transport Department has recovered 15 decimals of its land in Rupganj of Narayanganj where the casino mastermind Selim Prodhan had illegally constructed buildings.

Executive Magistrate and Joint Secretary of Roads and Transport Department, Mahbubur Rahman led a drive on Saturday and demolished a four-storied building of Japan-Bangladesh Security Printing Ltd and a few shops owned by Selim.

The illegal constructions at the Golakandail Saoghat area of Rupganj caused the road to shrink to only 10 to 12 feet wide.

Larger vehicles could not use the road and there was always congestion. The demolition drive has been welcomed by the locals.

Previously, Selim Prodhan was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion on September 30 in connection to the illegal online casino business.

Assistant Commissioner (Land wing) Tariqul Islam along with Rupganj police station Officer-in-Charge Mahmudul Hasan, Executive Engineer of Roads and Transport Department Jahangir Hossain, Assistant Deputy Director Shakhawat Hossain Shamim, Inspector Shahidul Alam and Fire Service Station Officer A Mannan were also present during the drive.

According to RAB sources, Selim Prodhan is the mastermind behind online gambling in Bangladesh.

He was trying to flee to Thailand on flight TG-322 of Thai Airways on September 30, which was scheduled to leave Dhaka at 1:30 pm before the arrest.
