Father, son arrested with deer meat in Sundarbans

A man with his son was arrested at Dumuria of Sharankhola range in the eastern part of the Sundarbans for carrying meat of deer on Thursday.

The arrestees are Hanif Mistri, 48, and Masum Mistri, 28, from Pirojpur.

From them, law enforcers seized 12 kgs of venison, 300 feet long trap, a boat and a trawler.  

Md Belayet Hossain, divisional forest officer of the Sundarbans East Forest Department, said, "The hunters tried to escape when the regular patrol team challenged them." The forest rangers arrested Hanif and Masum but their three associates ran away.

Steps are being taken to file a case against the arrestees and those who fled.
