Family demands further investigation and speedy trial of Eng Delwar murder

The family members of the deceased executive engineer of Gazipur City Corporation Md Delwar Hossain has demanded further investigation, and a fair, impartial and speedy trial of the murder.

On behalf of the family, Khodeja Akhtar, the widow of Delwar Hossain, held a press conference in the seminar room of the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) on Saturday.

It was said in the press conference that an assistant engineer would kill a senior officer of the same rank as a deputy secretary is planned by an individual is not at all believable.

It was further claimed that anonymous people, including some officials of Gazipur City Corporation, were trying to influence the family over the phone not to demand further investigation.

The family appealed to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to ensure a fair trial and safety of his wife and three sons by identifying the real mastermind and implementers behind the brutal murder of Engineer Delwar Hossain, a man of honesty and integrity.

Khodeja Akter read out a written statement at the press conference. The three sons of the deceased (Himel, Rumel and Tamal) and elder brother Nurunnabi Dipti and engineering leaders were present at the occasion.

Later at 12:30 pm, with the participation of general engineers of all levels of the country, a human chain programme was observed following the health rules.

In the end, IEB Vice-President Engineer Manjurul Haque Monju thanked all present and called for a united voice to demand the trial of Engineer Delwar Hossain.
