Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained a former policeman with Tk 27 lakh in Dhaka on early Monday. The arrestee was identified as Kabir Hossain Sheikh, a former Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police.

Kabir was arrested from Hatirjheel area, confirmed RAB’s Assistant Director (legal and media wing) Mizanur Rahman.

RAB stopped Kabir’s car at a checkpost though the vehicle had a police sticker. Kabir also showed his police ID to the RAB personnel.

However, RAB searched the vehicle on suspicion and found the cash. Later, his identification card was also found fake after running a verification, said Mizanur.

“The cop was suspended in 2018 as he was sentenced in a case filed by his family member,” added RAB.

During the primary interrogation, the arrestee confessed that he had been working as a middleman faking his suspension.
