Another associate of Erfan Selim, son of Dhaka-7 lawmaker Haji Selim, has been arrested Tuesday morning in connection with the assault on a Navy officer.

The arrestee - AB Siddique alias Dipu, 45, is the protocol officer of Haji Selim's business organisation Madina Group.

Confirming the matter to The Business Standard, H M Azimul Haque, deputy commissioner of Detective Branch (Ramna) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said, "Dipu has been arrested from Tangail around 3am today."

Earlier on Sunday evening, Erfan reportedly assaulted a navy officer and his wife near the Kalabagan crossing in Dhanmondi area in the capital after the official's motorcycle collided with Erfan's car. The officer filed a case with Dhanmondi Police Station on Monday morning accusing the lawmaker's son and others. The driver was arrested the same night.

Following the case, RAB launched a drive and arrested Erfan Selim and his bodyguard Md Jahidul Islam from his residence in Old Dhaka.

RAB also seized one foreign pistol, 400 pieces of yaba, 12 bottles of foreign liquor, 12 cans of beer, 36 walkie-talkies, handcuffs and an air gun from Erfan's possession.

Later, Irfan and his bodyguard Zahid were arrested by RAB and a mobile court sentenced them to one year in jail for possessing illegal liquor and unauthorised walkie-talkies.
