‘Ensure security of customers’ bKash accounts’
Bangladesh Mobile Phone Consumers’ Association organised a press conference at the auditorium of Crime Reporters’ Association of Bangladesh in the capital on Saturday to press home their demands
Bangladesh Mobile Phone Consumers' Association (BMPCA) has urged the authorities concerned to crack down on the racket engaged in swindling money out of bKash account holders.
The association has also demanded that the deceived users of bKash – a mobile financial service – be compensated, and the audited financial statement of bKash be revealed.
To press home these demands, the association organised a press conference at the auditorium of Crime Reporters' Association of Bangladesh in the capital on Saturday.
Addressing the event, the organisation's president Mohiuddin Ahmed said financial service providers are bound to ensure customers' security as per Section-12 of the Bangladesh Bank regulation. But, bKash users are being cheated by miscreants on a regular basis, he added.
He claimed that the bKash authorities are just publishing some name-only advertisements to make customers aware of fraudulence, which are not enough to avert this crime.
"We are yet to find a bKash customer who has got back their lost money," he said, adding that the bKash authorities themselves and the Bangladesh Bank as a regulator cannot deny their irresponsibility in this respect.
If necessary, the central bank should appoint a second party to conduct an impartial audit on bKash, Mohiuddin Ahmed continued.
Some bKash users who were cheated by miscreants also spoke at the event.
They said when a member of gang call to their phone number and mention the details of their bKash transactions then it is not illogical to suspect that some bKash officials could be involved with them. Because none but bKash authorities could not knowa customer's detailed information.
Some of them alleged that they filed general diaries with police stations but did not find any solution to their issues.
Participating in the press conference, Razequjjaman Ratan, central member of the Bangladesh Socialist Party (Basad), said it is completely unacceptable that several crore bKash customers will remain in insecurity due to the negligence of bKash authorities.
He asked for taking proper measures to bring the miscreants to justice and ensure customers' security.
