Drug dealer killed in Dhaka ‘gunfight’

A drug dealer was killed and two assistant sub-inspectors (ASI) were injured in a "gunfight" with Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) personnel during a drive in the capital's Khilgaon area early Monday.

The Detective Branch (DB) of Khilgaon Zonal Team, DB Motijheel department and DMP conducted the drive, led by Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Miah and Rafiqur Islam the deputy commissioner of DMP, at around 2:35am.

The drug dealer, Md Rajib, 33, got injured during the gunfight. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where the on-duty doctor pronounced him dead.

There are some 25 drugs and arms-related cases against Rajib.

ASI Shah Alam Mondol and ASI MD Atiqure Rahman were released from Central Police Hospital (CPH) after primary treatment.

Three cases were filed under the Arms Act and the Narcotics Control Act over the incident.
