Frauds pretend to be relatives of Gazipur SP

The Detective Branch (DB) of Gazipur district police arrested two individuals over an alleged attempt to collect a large amount of money from candidates sitting for police constable recruitment tests.

The detained pretended to be relatives of SP of Gazipur police and promised posts to each candidate, according to a press briefing held on Saturday.

"An organized group was trying to deceive the guardians of job-seekers for the post of a police constable by illegally demanding money," Shamsunnahar, SP of police, told journalists.

Based on intelligence, an individual named Syed Mahnur Hasan Jewel (32) has been arrested from Dhaka, confirmed police sources.

Later, police also arrested Jewel's elder brother Syed Mahbub Hossain (48) from Gazipur's Mouchak area, accused of the same crime.

Police confiscated two mobile phones, examination admit cards and other important documents from the culprits.

Legal proceedings against the arrested are under process.
