Crossfire: Another murder charge against 12 others including OC Pradeep

Another criminal case has been filed against 12 people, including former Teknaf model police station officer-in-charge (OC) Pradeep Kumar Das, for murder.

Chenuara Begum, wife of the late Abdul Jalil Prakash Putuikya of West Maheshkhalia Para in Huaikshyang Union of Teknaf, filed the case against these people on Thursday.

Judge Helal Uddin of Cox's Bazar senior judicial magistrate court-3 (Teknaf) took cognizance of the case and asked the OC of Teknaf police station to submit a report to the court by September 10 on whether there had been any case filed in the police station before the incident.

The accused are - Former OC of Teknaf Model Police Station Pradeep Kumar Das, Huaikshyang Police Outpost in-charge Inspector Mashiur Rahman, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Arifur Rahman, Sub-Inspector (SI) Sujit Chandra Dey, District Intelligence Branch Inspector Manas Barua, SI Arun Kumar Chakma, SI Nazim Uddin, ASI Nazim Uddin Bhuiyan, ASI Ram Chandra Das, Constable Sagar Dev, Constable Rubel Sharma and Aminul Haque,Dafadar of Huaikshyang Union Parishad and son of Maulvi Sirajul Islam of Kanjar Para.

According to the criminal case application, Abdul Jalil Prakash Putuikka was arrested on December 3, 2019 by the people accused in the case for not paying extortion money worth taka 10 lakh to them and later killed him in a crossfire on July 8, 2020.

Ten people have been registered as witnesses in the criminal application which mentions articles 380, 386, 302 and 34 of the penal-code.

Senior lawyers at the Cox's Bazar district and sessions judge's court, Abdul Bari and Mahmudul Haque attended the hearing on the case in court.

It may be mentioned that, on the night of July 31, 2020, Major (Retd.) Sinha Mohammad Rashed was shot dead by the police at Shamlapur check post on his way back to Nilima Resort in Himchhari area of ​​Cox's Bazar.

A case was filed against the then OC of Teknaf Police Station Pradeep and nine other policemen. Three members of the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) have also been implicated in the case.

Currently, they are all in Cox's Bazar district jail. They were first put on 7-day remand and later a 4-day remand by the court to investigate into the Sinha murder case.

Seeing this, people who were victims of harassment by the police of different police stations have come forward and are trying to file cases against the policemen who harassed them.

Four other murder charges, including the one filed today, have already been placed in court.
