DB police will submit the charge sheet in Renu murder case today (Thursday), accusing 15 people

At one stage of conversation with Taslima Begum Renu in front of the gate of North Badda Government Primary School, a guardian named Riya suddenly shouted, "child lifter". At that moment, 100 to 150 people gathered there and attacked Renu, mother of two.

Investigators of the Detective Branch (DB) police in the much-talked Renu murder case said this while talking to The Business Standard on Wednesday.

On July 20 last year, a mob had beaten Renu, 40, to death suspecting her of being a child lifter in front of the school. She was seeking information about her child's admission.

After a six-month investigation, DB police uncovered the mystery of the murder. The Motijheel branch of DB will submit the charge sheet of the case today (Thursday), accusing 15 people.

However, four people were dropped from the charge sheet as their names and addresses were not found. If they are found, they will be added to a supplementary charge sheet, said the DB investigators.

Joint Commissioner of DB police Mahbubur Rahman told The Business Standard on Wednesday, "Our investigation is over. It was then sent for the public prosecutor's opinion. We received the feedback. The charge sheet of the case will be submitted to the court tomorrow (Thursday). We have found out the reasons behind Renu's murder. The real culprits will face trial."

Investigators in the case said 15 people, including the parents of the students of the school, directly took part in the murder. Among the accused, Hridoy, Jafar and Riya pleaded guilty, and also confessed in court under Section 164.

The other accused are Wasim, Shaheen, Bachchu Mia, Bappi, Kamal Hossain, Abul Kalam Azad, Murad, Sohel Rana, Billal Hossain, Asadul Islam, and Raju Ahmed.

Of the 15, 14 have already been arrested. A man named Mohiuddin was identified but could not be arrested as his exact address could not be found.+

According to the DB investigation, Renu went to the headmistress's room of the school at around 8:15am on the day of the incident and asked her if her (Renu's) child could be admitted now. The headmistress informed Renu that the time for admission had passed.

Then when she came out of the school through the gate, several parents, including Riya, wanted to know where her house was. At one point of conversation, Riya shouted, "kidnapper", and then the accused attacked her.
Renu died within 10 to 15 minutes of the mob beating.

Her nephew Syed Nasir Uddin filed a case against 400 to 500 unidentified people with Badda Police Station.

Renu, who hailed from Raipur upazila of Lakshmipur district, resided in the capital's Mohakhali area with her five-year-old daughter Tuba and 12-year-old son Tahsin. She had been divorced by her husband two years before the incident.
