Attack on Nur: Cops trying to retrieve missing CCTV footage

Police are trying to retrieve the CCTV footage of the attack on Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) Vice-President Nurul Haq Nur and his supporters, said Md Shafiqul Islam, commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

"We are investigating the incident," the commissioner told reporters after visiting the Holy Spirit Church in the capital's Banani area this morning, reports bangla daily Prothom Alo. 

The video footages of the CCTV cameras installed at different places of Ducsu building went missing after the attacks on VP Nur and his supporters. 

"Action will be taken against the accused after analysing the footage," he also said.

Talking to reporters outside the church, the police official said there is no risk of any violence in the city during Christmas celebrations.

"We have taken all-out security measures for the festive season," the commissioner said.

On December 22, a section of Muktijoddha Mancha activists carried out an attack on Nur and his followers inside his Ducsu office on the campus. A case was filed with the capital's Shahbagh police station over the attack.  

Three leaders – Muktijoddha Mancha Secretary Al Mamun, its Dhaka University unit Secretary Yasir Arafat Turjo and member Shanto – were placed on a three-day remand each in connection with the case on Tuesday.
