CID has arrested 11 members of his gang

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Monday arrested Abdus Salam, the alleged mastermind of medical and dental admission question paper leaks, in the capital's Banasree.

CID has arrested 11 members of the gang including Salam over leaking question papers from the Directorate General of Health Education's (DGHE) press.

Salam was the machine operator of the DGHE's press and leaked questions from 2006 and 2015.

CID Cybercrime Unit Special Superintendent SM Ashraful Alam on Tuesday said this at a press briefing at its headquarters.

"Salam would leak questions from the DGHS press to his cousin Jasim. Then Jasim would share it with medical college admission seekers, through the ring, taking a hefty amount of money," Ashraful said.

Salam was suspended from his job after CID pressed a charge sheet against him in 2015 over a murder in Manikganj, he added. "We are not yet sure how he got back to work. An investigation is ongoing into this and his wealth."

Also, during primary interrogation, Salam said five-to-six doctors and three-to-four coaching centres were connected with his gang.

Ashraful also said, "We may also investigate the former DGHE director Abdul Hannan if we find his involvement with the ring."

The gang came into the spotlight when CID investigated Dhaka University's "D" unit admission test question leak in 2018.
