ACC sues 6 for stealing govt rice worth Tk85 lakh in Cox’s Bazar

It is learnt that 302.679 tonnes of rice were shifted to the Boroghop food warehouse from Cox’s Bazar Sadar local storage depot between June 21 and 30. Later they stole 190.442 tonnes of rice from the Boroghop food warehouse.

 

 The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against six people, including Kutubdia Boroghop food warehouse acting in-charge Paulash Chowdhury, for stealing government rice.

The other five accused are-- Boroghop food warehouse cleaning staff member Md Shahjahan Prakash Mintu and security guard Nizam Uddin, district food controller office spray man Md Shahjahan, Messers Himayon Sea-Food Proprietor and Cox's Bazar's Sikder Mahal area's Dilruba Hasan and Messers Mohona Enterprise Proprietor Selim Reza.

These people stole 190.442 tonnes of rice from the government warehouse through mutual association, said Ratan Kumar Das, assistant director at the ACC Integrated Chattogram District Office-2.

Ratan Kumar, the plaintiff in the case, said they stole the rice worth Tk85.25 lakh by abusing their power.

It is learnt that 302.679 tonnes of rice were shifted to the Boroghop food warehouse from Cox's Bazar Sadar local storage depot between June 21 and 30. Later they stole 190.442 tonnes of rice from the Boroghop food warehouse.

Following the misappropriation of government food, district food controller (acting) Afif Al Mahmud Bhuyan filed a complaint at Kutubdia Police Station on July 29. Later the complaint was handed over to the ACC.
