ACC sent the asset statement notice to Papul who is currently in jail in Kuwait

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sent a notice to Lakshmipur-2 MP Kazi Shahid Islam Papul, who is currently in jail in Kuwait, seeking details of his assets.

Papul has been in Kuwaiti jail since 6 June last year, after being arrested by Kuwaiti police on charges of money laundering and human trafficking.

ACC Deputy Director Mohammad Salahuddin appealed to the commission, urging it to send a notice to Papul after the commission came to know about a huge amount of assets in Papul's name.

A notice was sent to him through foreign ministry and the Embassy of Kuwait seeking details of his movable and immovable property.

On 11 November last year, ACC Deputy Director Md Salahuddin filed a case against Shahid Islam Papul, his wife and reserved seat MP Selina Islam, daughter Wafa Islam and sister-in-law Jasmine Pradhan, alleging accumulation of illegal assets worth Tk2.31 crore and laundering Tk148 crore.

On 26 February last year, the ACC decided to investigate the allegations. Meanwhile, 617 bank accounts of Papul, his wife and four others have been frozen.
