Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained, on Friday, three people and fined another seven in Teknaf upazila in Cox's Bazar for their alleged involvement in illegal drug business.

RAB seized 80,000 litres of locally-made liquor from them. The drive was conducted in Nhilla Chowdhury Para area in the upazila.

Md Abul Mansur, the upazila nirbahi officer and executive magistrate, and Lieutenant Md Mirza Shaheed Mahtab, Rapid Action Battalion-15 camp in-charge, jointly led the drive.

The detainees are: Ja Me Naing from Nhilla area, Belal Uddin from Natmura para, and Abdul Gani from Teknaf sadar in the upazila.

RAB sources said, following a tip-off the RAB members, with assistance of the Teknaf upazila administration, conducted drive in Nhilla Chowdhury Para, confiscating 80,000 litres of liquor in the process.

The mobile court later destroyed the liquor, and fined Tk50, 000 on those who have not been detained.

Lieutenant Md Mirza Shaheed Mahtab said that they handed over the three detainees to the Teknaf model police station, after filing a case for drug trafficking against them.

UNO Abul Mansur said, drives as this will continue to uproot the illegal drug business from the upazila.
