The Manirampur upazila administration in Jashore has seized 555 sacks of government rice from a rice mill in Bizoirampur area.

During a drive on Saturday afternoon, local authorities held the Bhai Bhai Rice Mill's owner Abdullah Al Mamun and truck driver Farid Uddin in this connection.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ahsan Ullah Sharifi, Manirampur police station's Officer-in-Charge Rafiqul Islam and other government officials were present during the drive.

The sacks containing 50 kilogram of rice each were being taken to the Manirampur food storeroom from Khulna under the "Food for Work" project, according to sources. But curiously the rice was brought to the mill.

Confirming the matter to The Business Standard, UNO Ahsan said the rice was allocated for a government project, but details regarding the matter could not be disclosed yet.

The mill owner and the driver were sued in this connection, he added.

Officer-in-Charge Rafiqul said the process to recover the rice was going on.
