5 arrested in Dhaka for supplying expired cosmetics

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested five members of a fraudster gang for supplying expired cosmetics products.

The arrestees are Shankar Mondol, Md Harun or Rashid, Md Sabuj Ahmed, Md Moniruzzaman and Bireshwar Mondol, said a press release.

A team of CID arrested them on August 25 at the Bhatara Said Nagar area in Dhaka. They carried out the raid at a warehouse in a five-storey building of Sudhir Mondol, who is the leader of the gang.

CID also seized cosmetics worth of over TK10 crore from the warehouse.

The cosmetics products including Yardley lotion, Yardley powder and body spray.

The press release said, "Sudir Mondol opened an ogranisation named 'SPS Corporation' and were engaged in trading in expired cosmetics products, which were imported from different countries including Dubai. They were trading the products of Wipro Enterprise and Hankel."

"The group used to collect expired products from different shops at a nominal price and removed the expiry seal from the products. Then they used to put new expiry dates on the products. After that they sold these products to different shops and markets including shopping malls, "the release reads.

Police have filed a case at Bhatara Police Station over the incident.

A Dhaka court granted three-day remand for each of the five arrestees.
