Three suspected dacoits and a drug dealer were killed in separate ‘gunfights’ in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar early Saturday.

The deceased are- Junayed, 36, Ayub, 30, Mehedi Hasan, 35, and Imran Molla, 32.

“On information of a gang preparing for robbing, a team of police conducted a drive in Nurullaguna hill area in Kutubdia at 4am,” said Pradeep Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station.

Police claim that the robbers opened fire on the police team when it got there, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate. This triggered a gun fight.

After the gunfight, police rescued severely injured Junayed, Mehedi and Ayub from the spot and took them to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where doctors declared them dead, the OC added.

Police claim that Additional Superintendent of Police Rezwan and Inspector Manas Barua were among five policemen who were shot and injured in the gunfight.

Seven locally-made LG guns, five sharp weapons and 25 rounds bullets were recovered from the spot.

In another incident, police rescued injured Imran Molla, who was severely wounded in a gunfight between two groups of drug peddlers at Dorgapara of Marine Drive road at around 2am.

He was taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where doctor pronounced him dead.

Police arrested Saifuddin Shahin, 38, of Sonaimuri upazila in Noakhali and Siddique, 27, of Hatiaghona area in Teknaf upazila in this connection.

The dead bodies have been kept at hospital's morgue for autopsy, the OC added.
