Market price of the bars is around Tk1.5 crore

Members of the Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) seized 30 gold bars weighing around 3.5 kilogrammes from a place adjacent to the Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram.

The market price of those bars is about Tk1.5 crore, according to a press release of the Bangladesh Navy.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the BCG launched a special drive near the airport under Patenga Police Station on Saturday and recovered the bars, read the release undersigned by Lt Commander M Hamidul Islam, assistant director of the detective branch of the BCG.

As part of the drive, a suspect was asked to stop for searching, but he ran away, instead, by leaving back a polythene bag full of some objects. Later, the gold bars were recovered from the abandoned bag, the release added.

However, none could be arrested immediately in this connection.

A process was going on, while preparing this report on Saturday evening, to submit the gold bars to the authorities concerned.
