3 schoolgirls allegedly gang raped in Tangail, 2 held

Three ninth-grade female students were allegedly gang raped, and one of their friends harassed, at Katra Ban of Ghatail Upazila, Tangail on Sunday.

Police have arrested two of the suspects after a case was filed in this regard on Monday. 

Police sources said that a group of four schoolgirls went to visit Katra Ban on Sunday afternoon with two of their male friends.

A group of five to six youths started following them, and at one stage, held their male friends hostage in a secluded place in the forest. Then, they gang-raped three of the girls and harassed the other girl. 

Following the incident, the victims informed the matter to their guardians, who then reported it to the local police station. 

Later, the father of one of the victims filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with Ghatail police station.

"We have identified the accused and held two of them," said Maksudul Alam, officer-in-charge of the police station. 

However, he did not disclose the identity of the alleged rapists for further investigation.

The victims were sent to Tangail General Hospital for medical tests.
