3 Huji suspects arrested in Dhaka
One of them was recruiting members and reactivating Harkat-ul-Jihad Al Islami under the guise of being a journalist

Police arrested three youths in the capital's Jatrabari area, on charges of extremism, on Thursday afternoon.
The arrestees – Mainul Islam, Sheikh Sohan and Murad Hossain – are members of militant outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad Al Islami (Huji), said Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Counter-Terrorism Investigation Unit in a press release on Friday.
Mainul is the chief of the operation unit of the outfit, said Iftekhairul Islam, DMP additional deputy commissioner for media and public relations.
Police seized 10 detonators, five litres of acid, a machete, two daggers, and explosives from their possession.
The three were involved in reactivating the outfit, collecting explosives, sourcing funds, and arranging training for the members in the hilly areas, said the police.
Mainul, who was arrested for snatching imprisoned Huji leader Moinuddin alias Abu Jandal in 2015, is now recruiting members and reviving the outfit under the guise of being a journalist, said the police officer.
Another arrestee, Sohan, studied in Sunamganj and Dhaka. He is a madrasa teacher and was arrested three times – in 2016, 2017 and 2019 – on charges of subversive activities and terrorism, said the counter-terrorism officials.
Murad, a businessman by profession, is involved in recruitment and fund supervision.
The outfit is now operating under the leadership of two convicted militants languishing in jail, read the counter-terrorism unit press release.
A case under the anti-terrorism act was lodged against them.
