The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained two people including a Rohingya with 13 lakh yaba pills from a trawler after chasing it in the Bay of Bengal.

"The trawler moved to the Majhirghat area near Cox's Bazar city after being chased, and was seized on Sunday at around 5 pm," RAB Additional Director General (Operations) Colonel Tofail Mostafa Sarwar said during a press conference at the RAB-15 office today (Monday) at 12:30pm.

The detainees are Md Billal, 45, from Cox's Bazar and Mohammad Ayash, 34 of H16 block of Balukhali Rohingya Camp-13.

"RAB received information that a large consignment of yaba tablets from Myanmar was entering the country in a fishing trawler," the ADG said.

A team led by RAB 15 Director Azim Ahmed identified the trawler and chased it. RAB members seized the boat when it was anchored at Majhirghat near Cox's Bazar town. Later, 13 lakh yaba tablets were seized. They were in a bag that was hidden in the trawler.

During interrogation, the detainees said their syndicate has been smuggling in yaba tablets for a long time.
